Job DescriptionSkilled Nursing Unit
Founded in 1976, Edward White Hospital is a 167-bed facility located in the heart of South Pinellas County, Florida. Edward White Hospital is part of the HCA West Florida Division of Hospitals, a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient surgery and diagnostic imaging facilities, and a complete continuum of specialized healthcare programs that meet the healthcare needs of residents and businesses in West and Central Florida communities. Our parent company, HCA, is the nation's leading provider of healthcare services.
The Skilled Nursing Unit consists of 30 beds total…3 private rooms, 14 semi-private rooms, and an Activities Room. The length of stay for each resident is anticipated to be between 10 - 14 days. Construction on the SNU began Monday, September 20th. Staff training on the unit will begin December 20th, with our first residents arriving on or before, December 27th, 2010.
Conditions treated will include:
· Post-orthopedic or other surgery
· Medical conditions requiring short-term skilled and rehabilitative services
· Rehabilitation Therapy to increase strength, endurance, range of motion, mobility and coordination.
· Daily activities to help residents develop personal and social independence.
· By referral: Dental, Podiatry and Optometry/Ophthalmology

At EWH, we utilize complete computerized charting ("Electronic Health Record") for our patient assessment and care documentation. We also utilize eMAR, our electronic medication administration record for the delivery of all medications provided to our patients, which has significantly reduced errors associated when administering medications.
Number of Staff: 35
Skill Mix: RN, LPN, Unit Secretary, CNA, Registered Dietician, Activities Director, MDS Coordinator, Unit Director
Major Equipment Used: IV pumps, Dinamaps, Dopplers, Lifting Equipment, Accu-Check, Omni-Cell, Crash Cart, Feeding pumps, etc.
Special Certifications Needed: BLS required, ACLS preferred
Special Skills or Competencies Needed: Prior nursing experience in a Skilled Nursing Setting, preferable in an acute care setting; critical thinker, positive attitude, organized, team player, eager to learn and teach others; Customer Service Skills a MUST! Orthopedic experience desired. Prior Alzheimer's education/experience desired.
Schedules: 8 and 12-hour shifts; Full Time is considered 36-40 hours per week, including every other weekend; Self-scheduling is available
Dress code: Professional scrubs (individual provides their own)-royal blue color
Lifting equipment available: Opera, Encore, Maxislides, Z-slides

Required Job Qualifications include:
Current licensure as an LPN or LVN in State of Florida.
Current IV Certification (must be a formal, 30-hour IV cert course, approved by the Florida Board of Nursing).
Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association.
Graduate of an accredited practical or vocational nursing program.
Prior experience in a Skilled Nursing Unit/Facility desired.
Prior training/experience with Alzheimer's care.
Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
