Job Description
POSITION GOALThis Job Description provides criteria for evaluation for the Staff ST/CST. The Staff Surgical Technician/Certified Surgical Technician working in the Staff ST/CST position assures a safe and therapeutic environment for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients undergoing surgical procedures.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITY
E 1. Responsible for evaluating and implementing care for assigned patients.
E 2. Responsible for meeting Standards of Practice, managing supplies and equipment, and participates in maintaining proper inventory on all instruments in the department.
E 3. Actively participates in the planning and implementation of measures to maintain and improve the quality of patient care..
E 4. Responsible for coordinating instrumentation and surgical supplies, and assisting in surgical suite preparation for a variety of surgical cases.
5. Is knowledgeable in the use of positioning equipment and techniques to assure patient safety.
6. Scrubs for a variety of surgical specialty cases and assists as needed in circulating duties.
7. Assists in preparation of specimens, operation of equipment, and sterilization, and/or disinfection of equipment.
8. Assists in the immediate post-surgical care of the patient and of equipment in order to provide a continuum of quality patient care.
E 9. Accountable for maintaining and improving job knowledge and skills.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS
Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other departments (ie., Radiology) regarding patient care needs. Works closely with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital, and with physicians, patients, and their families.
Experience:
1. One year scrubbing experience in a perioperative environment required
Education:
1. Graduate of a surgical technology program, OR military equivalent, OR LVN performing in the surgical technologist role.
2. Educational requirements and knowledge appropriate for meeting population-specific needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Special Qualifications
1. Certification in Surgical Technology within six months of hire, OR verifiable Surgical Tech experience prior to 9/1/2009.
2. Certification in BCLS within 30 days of hire.
