May float to all PT locations**.JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of patient care duties, including basic treatment procedures, reception and clerical duties to assist in the care and treatment of patients referred to physical therapy. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationship with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: High school graduation or equivalent. Successful completion of an approved training program for medical assistants or comparable work experience. Demonstrated customer service skills, customer focus abilities and the ability to understand Kaiser Permanente customer needs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares patients for treatment by escorting them to appropriate treatment booth, providing gown and instructing or assisting patient in preparation for scheduled procedures.
Assists Physical Therapist with treatment procedures by setting/positioning equipment, attending patient, and providing appropriate supplies as directed.
Administers basic electrical stimulation and ultrasound therapy to patients with established treatment regimens, as directed; applies contact medical to patient's affected area; sets equipment controls at specified levels; positions instruments on patient's body' observes and adjusts equipment controls as necessary.
Prepares hot/cold packs and/or paraffin and applies to patient's affected area as directed; sets timer and provides patient security bell. Performs basic massage technique to relax muscles and improve circulation.
Positions patient's on pelvic and cervical traction unit; positions patient and places equipment on patient's affected area; sets poundage according to established treatment regimens, as directed; observes patient and notifies Physical Therapist of patient's discomfort as necessary.
Prepares physical therapy treatment areas by cleaning, stocking and arranging supplies, instruments and equipment. Orders and maintains departmental materials and supplies, and maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner.
Receives referral forms from patients and schedules or adjusts appointments based on scheduling guidelines. Seeks direction from a Physical Therapist when there are questions about the referral or when information provided by patient is different from the referral. Schedules follow up visits as directed by the Physical Therapist and/or guideline information sheet. When the referral form is incomplete the provider may be contacted for additional data.
Answers telephone calls, ascertains nature of calls by asking pertinent questions answers routine inquiries and directs calls to Physical Therapist as appropriate.
Performs related clerical duties as required, such as preparing and filing patient physical therapy records, completing patient visit records, maintaining departmental logs, and compiling patient visit data to assist in preparing departmental records.
