Caring for the smallest and most fragile lives yields some of the greatest personal and professional rewards. This is what you'll experience when you join the family-centered Neonatal Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. Serving families throughout the southwest, our Neonatal Unit consists of an 11-bed Level 1 Nursery and a 65-bed tertiary care NyICU where healthcare professionals provide a higher level of care for infants during weeks 23 to 42 weeks of gestation. From delivery to discharge, we provide a unique continuity of care for these special patients, including a hypothermia program and maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3-4 based on patient acuity.

Located on the 5th floor of the main building, our Neonatal Unit is in the process of becoming a national Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) training center. We offer a wide range of specialty care practices and therapies for neonates including high-frequency jet/oscillator ventilation, nitric oxide, surfactant replacement therapy, ECMO, neurological work ups and intervention, cardiac, and surgical and medical therapies.
