NURSE EXTERN
Job Description
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides direct basic nursing care, including but not limited to nutrition, hygiene, ambulation/positioning, hydration, elimination, comfort measures, range of motion, to chronic and acute patients. The position is designed to provide an opportunity for nursing students to combine relevant cooperative education with related instruction in the structured clinical setting. The Board of Registered Nursing recognizes opportunities for clinical experience for student nurse as valuable. The Nursing Practice Act (2729) authorizes the student enrolled in a Board-approved pre-licensure program to render Registered Nursing services when these services are incidental to a course of study in the program. The Nurse Extern work-study program qualifies under the Nursing Practice ActQualifications
Minimum
1. Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
2. Student in good standing of qualifying nursing program
3. Enrollment in Merced College’s Cooperative Education in Registered Nursing-Nurse Extern program CE41A-D or equivalent at another nursing program.
4. Successful completion of the 1st semester of nursing school at Merced College or equivalent at another school of nursing.
5. Current enrollment in the 2nd semester of nursing school at Merced College or equivalent at another school of nursing.
