Job Description
Reviews operative schedule to determine instrument sets and/or additional supplies needed for scheduled surgeries. Informs Supervisor of consignment and/or vendor issues and offers suggestions for resolution of issues.1.2
Adheres to relevant AORN Recommended Practices, including ""Chemical Disinfection"", ""Use and Care of Endoscopes"", ""Instruments and Power Equipment-Care and Cleaning"", ""Packaging Systems-Selection and Use"" and ""Sterilization in the Practice Setting"".

Disassembles and decontaminates surgical instruments after use. Carefully inspects instruments and arranges for repairs when necessary. Keeps Supervisor informed and notes on Repair Board. Maintains functionality of instruments by careful handling and by lubrication moving parts after every cleaning, according to manufacturer's instructions.

Working with Supervisor prioritizes instrument processing needs to assure consistent and accurate availability of instruments. Gives feedback to Supervisor and Clinical Facilitator regarding decontamination and/or processing concerns of the instruments.

Uses instrument checklist to assure that the correct number of instruments are available, inspected and in good working order. Promptly reports possible availability issues to supervisor for resolution. Identifies need for additional instrument procurement and forwards information to Supervisor.

Assembles instrument sets and packages individual instruments such that instrument integrity is maintained. Audits results of assembly to assure accuracy.

Uses appropriate cleaning supplies, methods and personal protective equipment to clean and decontaminate instruments in preparation for sterilization process. In all duties, applies OSHA standards and universal precautions to protect patients and staff.

Demonstrates knowledge of principles in use of sterilizing equipment; high-vacuum steam, hydrogen, gas-plasma systems, and Steris equipment. Performs and records all biological testing of all sterilizing units in accordance to industry standards. Cleans and maintains sterilizing units and other departmental instrumentation and equipment.

Follows directions well and demonstrates a courteous and appropriate manner. Maintains current knowledge in field and is receptive to learning. Assists with patient transfers, positioning and transport.
REQUIREMENTS:
Previous experience as Instrument Room Technician. Certification from the State of California. BASIC LIFE SUPPORT-AHA (CT CPRBLS) – CCSPD and/or IASCMM Instrument tech certification (required)
